How to Track Local Government
Public Meetings
In Pennsylvania, residents can track and attend public meetings in their townships, boroughs, counties, or school boards by accessing meeting agendas and minutes, which are typically published on official municipal or school district websites. These documents provide schedules, locations, and topics of discussion, allowing citizens to stay informed and participate in local governance.
Can I attend meetings in person or virtually?
If a virtual option is available, citizens can attend public meetings online by joining livestreams or video conferences, typically linked on the official website or meeting agenda. These platforms often allow viewers to follow discussions in real time and, in some cases, submit public comments or questions digitally.
How do I learn how local government works?
To understand how local government works in Pennsylvania’s boroughs, townships, and counties, start by exploring each entity’s official website, where you'll find charters, meeting schedules, and organizational structures. You can also review Pennsylvania’s Municipal Codes and the Department of Community and Economic Development resources to learn how responsibilities are divided among elected officials, boards, and administrative departments.
